A.xodus In partnership with GB Carnival 2024:
A.Xodus has graciously accepted the great honor of working with GB carnival Director Frankly Sweeney in facilitating the Leading Jankonu cultural workshops, exploring music, and performance traditions across the African diaspora. A.Xodus Is has made Ka Boukie the musical director of the project. we will also be partnering with Clock your skills and Waltham forest and leyton adult learn service to bring Jankanu Mas to UK masses.

What is Jankanu?
Junkunoo is the celebration of the resistance to slavery and was often done by slaves as a means to show some resistance covertly to slavery while being enslaved. Starting in Jamaica the Junkunoo mas spread throughout the Caribbean and is now ingrained in Caribbean carnival culture. 2024 will be the first ever in the history of the Leyton carnival a section dedicated to the Junkanuu mas as a part of the Leyton mas carnival which will be organized and run by A.Xodus in partnership with GB carnival. GB Carnival produces carnival events and projects at all scales. GB Carnival spends a lot of time in planning and creative development, collaborating and co-creating within the communities where the work will come to life. A.Xodus will be taking the young people who come from referrals from our other partnership in this project the leyton youth service, the job center and through a joint outreach effort from A.Xodus and G.B. Carnival, and from local community churches across waltham forest newham to enable taking the youth through the workshops to lead them into leyton carnival, then to ramsgate carnival, margate carnival, then to nottinghill carnival (through joining GB carnival and Mass africa as a section in their carnival) and then end at our run at the Hackney carnival.
